Notes

Arietta is born of a passion for fine wine and classical music. Fritz Hatton, who owns Arietta with his wife Caren, is not only the nation's premier wine auctioneer, but also an accomplished amateur classical pianist. The Arietta movement of Beethoven's last piano sonata, Opus 111, is one of the pinnacles of classical music. The label incorporates the opening measures of Beethoven’s manuscript of the Arietta movement, including his tempo indication, “Adagio molto semplice e cantabile” (very slowly, simply and songlike). There is no more apt description of Arietta's beautifully refined 88 Keys Cabernet Sauvignon, offered in custom six-pack original wooden cases exclusively through CEP Securities.

With only 480 bottles to be produced, Arietta 88 Keys Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 is the ultimate expression of Arietta Cabernets. The 88 Keys is composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Arietta’s extraordinary two-acre block in Coombsville. A small volcanic vale hidden just east of the town of Napa, Coombsville has long been recognized by insiders as a great terroir for Bordeaux varietals and was finally designated its own appellation status in February 2012.

The 88 Keys is made from winemaker Andy Erickson’s selection of his two favorite barrels from the fourteen produced from the Arietta Coombsville Block. Andy, who has made wine for Screaming Eagle and Harlan, has been Arietta’s winemaker since 2005. After making his selection, Andy keeps a watchful eye on the 88 Keys cuvee for an extra six months in barrel, and bottles it 26 months after harvest.
