Notes

“One Purpose, One Estate, One Wine.” Continuum Estate is the distillation of four generations of wine-making experience in the Napa Valley. Since 1919, when Cesare Mondavi began to ship California grapes, each generation of this historic family has dedicated itself to fine winemaking. In 1933, Cesare began to produce wine at Sunny St. Helena Winery, and, in 1943, he bought Charles Krug Winery where he began producing quality table wine. In 1966, Cesare's son Robert founded Robert Mondavi Winery to produce wines that would compete with the world’s finest wines. Robert Mondavi became a beloved ambassador of Napa wines throughout the world. At Robert Mondavi Winery, Robert’s son Tim Mondavi was the director of winemaking for over thirty years. His extensive wine-growing expertise was honed throughout the Napa Valley and around the world in fine wine regions from Tuscany to Chile and France.

In 2005, Tim and his sister Marcia, along with their children and Robert Mondavi, continued the family legacy with the creation of Continuum. Continuum is the realization of Tim’s dream for a terroir-driven, estate-based wine. In 2008, he purchased the Continuum Estate on Pritchard Hill for its perfect combination of hillside location, red rocky soils, exposure and climate, with a view to making a single world-class red wine.

Tim Mondavi has inherited a great legacy, however his modern artistry and now 40 years of winemaking experience goes into every bottle of Continuum. He oversees every aspect of Continuum's winemaking. The vineyard is farmed in thirty-seven 1-2 acre blocks, so that each block’s unique exposure, soils and clonal selections can be carefully managed from bud break to harvest, ensuring that only the finest fruit is selected for Continuum. All the fruit is then hand harvested, sorted and fermented in a carefully orchestrated selection of oak and cement tanks before being moved to small French oak barrels for aging.

Each vineyard lot is tasted and carefully considered when crafting the final blend. Tim's goal is to assemble a cuvée reflective of Continuum's fabulous site on Pritchard Hill. The result has been spectacular; Continuum's lush, supple expression of terroir has met with great critical acclaim. Continuum Estate celebrates nearly a century of Napa Valley history and fine winemaking expertise.
