FAQs
  • Why do I need to register with E-Cep before adding a bond to my cart? Buying wine bonds is not the same as buying wine. It has a different risk profile and we want buyers to understand and acknowledge these risks before buying any wine bonds. We therefore ask buyers to review a sample bond contract before registering and completing their first purchase.
  • Is there a limit on how many bonds I can buy? Yes. Our winery partners wish to see their wine bonds placed widely amongst the collector community, not held in heavy concentrations. They therefore place limits on how many bonds any individual can buy. This limit varies from winery to winery. The purchase limit is noted next to each bond offering in our store. If a winery offers another tranche of the same bond at another time, the collector is free to buy again up to the purchase limit.
  • What is a preferred code? Some of our winery partners wish to offer their bonds to their private clients first. The preferred code allows these clients to access these exclusive bond offerings.
  • What happens if I add a bond to my wishlist? Wineries sometimes increase the size of a bond offering in order to satisfy a long "wishlist waitlist". Other times they decide to prioritize wishlist customers when opening a new issue. Wishlist clients receive an email inviting them to buy the bond. Orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the purchase limit.
  • I stepped away for a few minutes and your system logged me off. Why? For security reasons, our system logs buyers off after five minutes of inactivity.
  • What are my payment options? We accept payment by American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover. You can use a domestic or international billing address.
  • Can I cancel my order? No. All sales are final.
  • What taxes will be due on settlement? This depends on where you take delivery, but generally sales and excise taxes will be due. Tax rates vary from state to state and from country to country. To learn more about tax rates in your home state, click here.
  • How much will shipping costs be? That will be determined by the winery when the wines are ready to ship. Our winery partners are contractually bound to offer their most favorable shipping, handling and insurance rates to bondholders. Some even ship for free within the United States.
  • Do I have to decide where I want to take delivery of the wine when I buy the bond? No, this can be determined when the wines are ready to ship. As part of the bond buying checkout process, you will be asked to indicate where you intend to take delivery, but this is purely nominal and can include addresses in nonreciprocal states. You will be asked to confirm your shipping information when the wines are ready to ship.
  • I placed an order for a number of bonds and want to ship to multiple destinations, but could only select one shipping address at checkout. What should I do? No problem. When each of the underlying wines within your order is ready to ship, you will be contacted by E-Cep to confirm your shipping information. At this point you can select more than one destination.
  • What happens if I change address, or my contact or credit card information changes? No problem. Simply log in to your account and update your profile.
  • Why are all of your winery partners in Napa Valley? The vast majority of America's finest luxury-boutique wineries are situated in Napa Valley. That said, we may eventually extend our program to include some non-Napa Californian cult wineries.
  • Wineries' annual production levels are noted in case amounts. How much wine is in a case? A case comprises twelve 750 ml bottles of wine, or volume equivalent.
  • What does E-Cep stand for? "Le Cep" is a French term for the trunk of a grapevine, or vine stock. "E" alludes to the electronic nature of our platform.
